    Innumerable famous people have stayed at the Grand Hotel during the 19th and 20th centuries. who died in 1884 and in whose memory his parents founded the University in California that still today bears his name. Centuries of history and tradition have bequeathed to Florence a deeply felt, humanistic attitude to hospitality; a culture which has matured through the centuries, with traditions handed down the generations. They include the Indian maharajah Rairan Cottraputti (cremated in 1871 with the Brahmin rite in Le Cascine) or the young American Leland Stanford Jr. .

    From Bologna:
    - Take the A1 motorway and exit at Firenze Nord.
    - Follow signs for the city centre until you reach the Arno River.
    - At the river, follow signs for Ponte Vecchio and then Longarno Vespucci until you come to Piazza Ognissanti.

    From Fiesole:
    - Follow signs for the city centre and at Piazza Della Liberta follow Viale Lavagnini around the Fortezza da Basso until you reach Viale Rosselli.
    - At the Arno River, turn left for Piazza Ognissanti.

    From Pisa/Livorno:
    - Take the A11 and follow signs for the city centre until you arrive at the Arno River. At the river, follow signs for Ponte Vecchio and then take Lungarno Vespucci until you reach Piazza Ognissanti.

    From Rome:
    - Take the A1 and exit at Firenze Certosa.
    - Follow signs for Florence and the city centre/Via Porta Romana to Petrarca.
    - Continue to Ponte Della Vittoria and after you cross the Arno River, turn right onto Piazza Ognissanti.

    By plane: The hotel is 8 kilometres from Firenze-Pertola Airport. Transfer from/to the hotel is available upon request.

    By train: the hotel is 5 minutes walk from S.Maria Novella railway station.
